"The first batch of students selected for the Industry based PhD program being offered by Deakin University, Victoria, Australia through a strategic partnership with Vimta Labs Ltd, Hyderabad have started their research work from the July 30, 2009.

The students were awarded their enrolment offer and scholarship letters by Prof. Lee Astheimer, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research), Deakin University in a small ceremony organized in the premises of Vimta Labs, Genome Valley, Shameerpet, Hyderabad. Each student has received a scholarship of A$ 84,000 from Deakin University in terms of tuition fee waivers. The duration of this programme will be 3.5 years, full time, based at Vimta Life Sciences in Hyderabad. The program includes a minimum 3-6 month stay at Deakin University for further research and training with a Deakin based co-advisor (accommodation and expenses in Australia provided). Vimta Labs is investing towards the Indian costs for the students including laboratory costs and a stipend of equivalent to JRF.

The program is unique with the following features:-

- An Industrial based PhD program •

- Degree will be awarded by Australian University

- Opportunity to conduct research at Deakin University

- Co-guided by scientists at Vimta Labs and Deakin University

- Research scholars will get industry experience & International experience

- Significant focus on applied research

- Airfare to Australia and Lodging & Boarding while at Australia is covered by the program

- Student will be paid stipend during the PhD program

- Tuition Fee Scholarship

Research Areas

The research area focus will include Identification of cancer biomarkers and nanotechnology.
