He was 82 years old.
Shri Chandra was on the boards of 3 companies (Bajaj Auto Limited, Bajaj Holdings & Investment Limited and Bajaj Finserv Limited.) of the Bajaj Group for many years. In his long illustrious career as IAS from May 1956, he had served as the Cabinet Secretary from 1990-1992, as the Indian Ambassador to the USA from 1996 to 2001, as Governor of the State of Gujarat and in several other important and prestigious positions.
