"Panacea Biotec, India's 3rd largest biotechnology company proudly presents book PREVENT -Diabetes & Complications in India: Perspective & Treatment Options.

PREVENT, 1st time in India, is a book which attempts to address management guidelines of diabetes and complications based on Indian perspective.

India today is at the ascending limb of the epidemic diabetes with the prevalence and incidence increasing at an alarming rate. It is a matter of concern that lack of awareness, late diagnosis and inadequate management is resulting in compounding the patients' misery. Moreover, there is no concrete guidance to manage Indian diabetics as we are genetically conducive to develop diabetes and complications. Taking a note from what is the need of the hour, an eminent panel from across India, comprising of renowned Diabetologists, Cardiologists, Nephrologist, Neurologist and Retionologist, under the chairmanship of Padmashree Dr. Anoop Misra has endeavored to put in evidence and practical experience and come up with the book PREVENT. The honorable endocrinologist & diabetologist involved in this are Dr. Subhankar Choudhury (Kolkata), Dr. Vijay Viswanathan (Chennai), Dr. H B Chandalia (Mumbai} & Dr. Bansi Saboo (Ahmedabad); honorable cardiologists are Dr. R R Kasliwal (Guragaon & Delhi NCR), Dr. G S Wander (Ludhiana) & Dr. Anjan Lai Dutta (Kolkata); neurologist Dr. P P Ashok (Mumbai); nephrologist Dr. Bharat Shah (Mumbai) and retina specialist Dr. N S Muralidhar (Bangalore). Therefore, PREVENT is a blend of experience from across India.

Commenting on the same, Dr. Anoop Misra, Chairman PREVENT, said "For the 1st time this comprehensively written book will be available to clinicians dealing with diabetes patients with complications. PREVENT will help them to use evidence based strategies for effective diagnosis, prevention and management of complications of diabetes .In particular all these guidelines are adapted to locally specific situations and practices as is seen in Indian subcontinent". He has thanked Panacea Biotec for the valuable support in ideation and executing this project successfully. He has also expressed his thanks to Elsevier for the cooperation in creating the scientific content of PREVENT.

Dr. Rajesh Jain, Jt. Managing Director, Panacea Biotec Limited. Expressed his views "Diabetes is the single most important metabolic disease which can affect nearly every organ system in the body. People with diabetes are 25 times more likely to develop blindness, 17 times more likely to develop kidney disease, 30-40 times more likely to undergo amputations, 2-4 times more likely to develop MI and twice as likely to suffer a stroke than non diabetics. This will pose a threat to our economic progress and development".

"The book - Prevent - diabetes & complication is a very good attempt to educate people about the disease, its management and prevention. The vast world population is looking ahead to live a happy, healthy and longer life and this book will provide guidance and expert solutions". "Panacea Biotec has always contributed in providing solutions for health management and will remain committed to the cause of helping Indian clinicians to manage diabetes and its complications".
