OBJECTIVES:

The objective of the programme is to provide comprehensive knowledge on:

  1. To provide knowledge and understanding of the basic concepts in Finance and Accounts.

  2. To create the capabilities among participants to read and understand the strategic issues in Financial Statements.

  3. To cultivate the financial skills in participants to understand various financial dimensions of business, like alternative sources of financing, various financial markets and its features, corporate actions, financial ratios and various risks

PROGRAMME CONTENTS:

Day 1:

Session One
What is Finance? What is Accounting? What are Financial Statements? Balance Sheet, P & L Account, Cash Flow

Session Two
How to read Financial Statements? Understanding financial strengths and weaknesses

Session Three
Financial Ratio Analysis, Liquidity versus Profitability, Overtrading, under capitalisation

Session Four
Working Capital Management - Cash, Receivables, Inventories, Loans and Advances, Suppliers Management

Day 2:

Session One
Business as an economic entity - difference between firm, partnership and company (both public and private companies). Memorandum and articles of Association. Concept of trading and Manufacturing - value creation.

Session Two
Extensive discussions on common shares, preference shares, debentures, hybrid instruments like convertibles, warrants, all money market instruments like CPs, bank financing, factoring, forfeiting, bill discounting etc. Comparative analysis of various sources of funds - competitive advantages and disadvantages. Discussion on the terms like authorized capital, subscribed capital, issued capital, paid up capital etc.

Session Three
Introduction to the corporate actions like bonus, split, consolidation, right, dividend, buyback etc., underlying reasoning behind them and their impact on the B/S. of the company and the share price of the company. Concept of gearing / leveraging. Cost of capital. (investment avenues for individuals and the Corporates). Fundamentals of sound investing. Values of the business entity - market value, liquidation value and the book value. Intangibles like brands, human resources, patents and their values.

Session Four
Risks, Introduction to Financial Markets (Capital Markets and Money Markets), Distinctive advantages and disadvantages, Major players, Their roles in the market Products, How to raise funds through the Primary Market (capital and money market), How the secondary markets operate both money and capital markets.

Fees:

The course fee shall be Rs. 3,000/- (Rs. Three thousand only) + 12.36% (service tax + e.cess)per participant inclusive of course material, meals and tuition fees.
